Seven top-100 recruits on Seton Hall’s radar for 2016 class

Wielding one scholarship for rising seniors in high school, Seton Hall has offers out to seven top-100 ESPN/ players as judged by the recent ranking updates for both recruiting services.

A list of the seven recruits:
No. 21 ESPN/No. 23 Scout – Markelle Fultz (6’5 guard/DeMatha Catholic, Md.)
No. 22/No. 20 – Rawle Alkins (6’4 guard/Christ the King, N.Y.)
No. 67/No. 81 – Shamorie Ponds (6’ guard/Thomas Jefferson, N.Y.)
NR/No. 78 – Rodney Miller (6’9 forward/Oak Hill Academy, Va.)
No. 88/No. 84 – Bryce Aiken (6’ guard/Patrick School, N.J.)
No. 91/No. 77 – Taurean Thompson (6’9 forward/St. Anthony, N.J.)
No. 93/NR – Myles Powell (6’ guard/Trenton Central, N.J.)

Despite Seton Hall having just one scholarship to give (Derrick Gordon’s), it’s likely at least one more will open up during the course of next season whether it be Angel Delgado or Isaiah Whitehead turning professional or an outgoing transfer.

Both top-50 recruits listed above have been offered with Rawle Alkins being recruited for a while now, but both are certainly long shots to wind up in South Orange.

Of the remaining three guards, Shamorie Ponds and Bryce Aiken have both stated that Seton Hall is one of the schools working hardest in their respective recruitments while interest in Myles Powell is still active with the Trenton guard recently tweeting that he spoke to the coaching staff via phone.

As for the two forwards, a local under-the-radar prospect like St. Anthony big man Taurean Thompson would be a nice addition but seems unlikely unless Delgado departs early or a reserve forward decides to transfer.

Outside of top-100 targets, recruits like Benjamin Cardozo (N.Y.) guard Rashond Salnave and under-the-radar guard/wing Shawn Montague have been linked to Seton Hall since the spring here and here.

With natural point guard Jevon Thomas set to become eligible for the 2016-17 season after his transfer from Kansas State, it appears that the staff is eyeing a two-guard, and if possible, a post forward to add to the players that will join the Pirates’ ranks next summer.

As for this summer, the crucial July live recruiting periods are set to begin next month on the 8th.
