Seton Hall suspends Ismael Sanogo from team

The drama keeps on coming for Seton Hall. Kevin Willard announced he has suspended senior forward Ismael Sanogo for a violation of team and university rules.

24 hours prior to a date with Manhattan to close out the non-conference schedule and a couple days removed from a Jordan Walker transfer scare, Willard has handed down punishment to one of his players that has managed to stay far from the proverbial dog house for most of his career.

“Ish has a responsibility to himself and his teammates to abide by all the rules of this university and team. Hopefully, he will understand the opportunity he has attending Seton Hall University, and he will make the changes he needs to make to be allowed back on this team,” said Willard in a release.

Sanogo was previously suspended along with Myles Powell for Seton Hall’s exhibition game against LIU-Post for an infraction deemed very minor by Willard.

“Just minor team violations. Nothing major, just minor. Just trying to keep everyone on track,” he said at the time.

Sanogo’s (4.3 ppg, 4.6 rpg, 1.2 spg) status going forward is uncertain — one would think he is back for Creighton next Thursday — but he will not play against Manhattan.

Redshirt junior Mike Nzei (5.8 ppg, 3.8 rpg), who started the first five games of the season and seven of 12 total, will pick up the extra minutes at power forward along with Sandro Mamukalashvili (3.5 ppg, 2.7 rpg)

I’m so surprised to hear this. Never expected this from Ish.

Wow second shocking headline in a row… What a week. What’s next??? Well, hopefully he will miss an uneventful game tomorrow & be back in action next week. HOPEFULLY THATS IT FOR THE OFF THE COURT DRAMA….

Not sure what kinds of things fall under “university and team rules”…late for practice, missing class, etc. I guess we’re not going to here more details, but we’ll need Ish for Creighton and Johnnies coming up

    • I wasnt sure if the verbiage is meaningful or not, but turns out it is. Not showing up for practice would not get a regular student suspended, for example. Graffiti/vandalizing (this is NOT what happened, just a random example) would violate both university rules and presumably Willard’s.

Ish is a good Kid and I know the pain this must have caused KW.( it is painful for us and we are just Fans). But I would rather root for a Team that enforces rules than one where things are swept under the rug. Hope that it works out.

BTW… I had just finished rationalizing the Rutgers loss & then they go and lose at home to Stony Brook… I guess that’s why we live CBB…

Team rues are for everybdy, not just for some. They have to be enforced. Good for Willard.

Should be an interesting second half after the ending to the first. Would imagine it’s going to be a lot of Carrington playing the 2 and Gordon and Walker taking over at the point.
