When the clock turned to June 15th less than 24 hours ago, college coaches were officially allowed to make calls to Class of 2018 recruits. Seton Hall’s staff made sure to take full advantage by reaching out to a handful of new targets and already well-known names.

The most prominent news came in the form of an offer to 6-4 2018 shooting guard Eric Ayala of Putnam Science Academy (Conn.) and WE R1 (AAU).

Back court teammates with top-10 2017 point guard and fellow Seton Hall target Trevon Duval on WE R1, Ayala holds offers from Miami (Fla.), Penn State, USC, Saint John’s, Cincinnati, Temple, South Carolina and others. A full scouting report can be read here.

Ayala’s offer was joined late Wednesday night by the staff also offering 2018 wing Zion Williamson of Spartanburg Day (S.C.) and the SC Hornets. A top-25 prospect according to 247Sports, Williamson has been offered by a litany of SEC and ACC schools along with Georgetown, UNLV, UCLA, Tennessee and Maryland since the beginning of May.

In addition to those two names, Seton Hall has also reached out to five new targets in addition to 2018 Sports U and Hudson Catholic (N.J.) standout guard Luther Muhammad, who took in at least a handful of games at Prudential Center last season. Seton Hall’s staff apparently reached out to Luther at midnight.

New targets:

Ja’Quaye James (2018 Teaneck/NJ Playaz guard) – Despite being undersized at 5-8, James has already scored over 1,000 points for Teaneck, a milestone he met en route to a Group III title this past winter. Ja’Quaye’s lone offer is from Monmouth, but Iona, Rutgers, Seton Hall and others have already shown interest today. You can watch a brief clip of his game against Immaculate Conception during the 2015-16 season here.

Robby Carmody (2018 Mars HS/Ohio Basketball Club guard) – A top-100 shooting guard from just outside of Pittsburgh, Carmody already holds offers from Purdue, Penn State, Xavier, Northwestern, Stanford and Cincinnati while he was also able to visit the likes of Pittsburgh, Notre Dame and others this past winter. Villanova, Butler and Michigan are among other top schools that have called him today.

Darnell Brodie (2018 Putnam Science Academy/NE Playaz center) – A native of Newark that used to go to school at Ish Sanogo’s alma mater Newark Eastside, Brodie is now up in Connecticut playing alongside the aforementioned Eric Ayala for PSA. The only true post forward on this list, Brodie only has low-major offers but has heard from West Virginia, Temple, St. John’s, UMass and others to go along with Seton Hall. It’s too early to tell here, but Kevin Willard could have an edge here if he plays the Ish card.

Ethan Wright (2018 Newton North HS/NE Playaz guard) – Another NE Playaz product that goes to high school in Massachusetts, there is not much info on this 6-foot shooting guard guard. It looks like he is a deadly outside shooter, scoring 39 points on at least one occasion for Newton North as a sophomore. Syracuse, Virginia and Harvard also called Ethan yesterday, so it looks like he’ll receive his first offer in no time.

Khalid Moore (2018 Archbishop Molloy/RENS wing) – Little is known about the 2018 wing except that St. John’s and Seton Hall have shown interest in the New York City product; he’s apparently having an impressive spring on the AAU circuit. Here’s a clip of him dunking for Molloy.

UPDATE (6/17): Seton Hall has offered both Khalid Moore and Darnell Brodie, totaling five when including Moore’s Archbishop Molloy teammate Moses Brown, who also picked up a ‘ship on Friday. A center, Brown had already been extended offers by Maryland, Oklahoma State and Florida since the beginning of May.

In other recruiting news, all has been quiet on the Taurean Thompson front since his official visit to Michigan State. Rumors are plentiful about the apparent disagreements between various family members about where he should wind up, so this could get even more interesting. The only sure bet here is that Taurean is not the sole person making his college decision.

If we could just add a romantic interest at one of the schools, this whole TT saga has the makings of a fine afternoon novella on Univision…

I can just hear mom’s answer: “They have plenty of pretty girls in South Orange. Besides, it’s cold in Michigan. Is that Izzy of yours going to fly me out there and buy me mittens too?”

    “It’s Izzo, mom, coach Izzo.”

I bet u he winds up with us….

But will he allow himself to be happy about that?

There’s a long answer and a short answer. The short answer is yes.
