Seton Hall to host Delaware in 2016-17

Seton Hall has added the Delaware Blue Hens to their nearly complete 2016-17 non-conference schedule.

If Delaware sounds familiar, that’s because leading scorer and floor general Kory Holden (17.7 ppg, 4.2 apg) has left the team and visited the Hall before deciding on South Carolina.

Starting ‘four’ Marvin King-Davis (14.8 ppg, 9 rpg) has graduated from a 7-23 (2-16) team that prompted the firing of 10th-year head coach Monte Ross, while injury-plagued Chivarsky Corbett (9 ppg, 5.8) has also decided to transfer; Delaware is still without a head coach after axing theirs during the first round of the NCAA tournament and following this hiring timeline.

This will probably be chalked up as a cupcake next year, but it does help fill out Seton Hall’s schedule and add another home game, though not an overly-attractive one. The deal does not include a return game in Newark, Delaware.

The slate (11 games):

Fairleigh Dickinson – opener at Walsh
November 16 – @Iowa (Gavitt Games)
November 24-27 – AdvoCare Classic (Gonzaga, Miami, Iowa State, Stanford, Ind. St., Quinn.)
Early December – Potential game on West Coast before Hawaii
December 7 – Pearl Harbor armed forces event vs. California
December 12 – South Carolina @ MSG – Under Armour event
Mid-December – Rutgers

Saint Peter’s

  • So they’ll play in Newark, but not in Newark.

      I THINK that’s correct.

Great, cute post! Of course, one is really Nork and the one to the south is New Ark. Just saying.

  • Jersey Jerry

So, do U think this was something ‘da Hall was trying to schedule to get Kory here? Doesn’t make any sense to play another ‘cupcake’ as we try to build for the Dance!

    • Not sure what you mean by “another cupcake” — Rutgers may be the only out-and-out cupcake previously on the schedule since FDU and Saint Peter’s are arguably better

      • Jersey Jerry

Cupcake =’s a Delaware team w/o a coach that went 7-23 last year and two of the top 3 players are transferring and the second leading scorer graduated … sure looks like a ‘cupcake’ to me ~ just say’n!

I don’t think Chris is arguing that Delaware isn’t a cupcake, Jerry. I’m pretty sure he’s questioning your choice of using the word “another”, which implies the Seton Hall schedule is loaded with cupcakes when, in truth, only Rutgers truly fits that description at this point.

Schedule is much stronger than past seasons but still lacking that 1 big home game. Maybe the South Carolina game at MSG is it. But it’s nice to have that 1 December home game versus a quality opponent to fill the Rock and bring a bunch of recruits to. Last year it was Wichita State.

Agree with Fish… We are slowly opening the door to big time bball… You can hear it creak, it’s been so long since we where there. But it’s open and we need to open it some more and add at lest 1 more quality team at the Rock, Win or lose we have to do it and take advantage of our status as BE Champs.
