Isaiah Whitehead raising NBA Draft stock at Combine

Seton Hall standout Isaiah Whitehead had a successful outing on Thursday during the second day of the NBA Draft Combine in Chicago, raising his draft stock along the way.

Some neutrals and a few readers of this site were remarking on Twitter about how Whitehead was impressing on ESPN2, which aired today’s workouts and scrimmages.

While DraftExpress — who don’t have Isaiah on their mock draft board — disagreed, they appear to be in the minority as a handful of NBA franchises have expressed interest by interviewing Seton Hall’s floor general while also setting up workouts.

The biggest news comes in the form of Isaiah coming out and telling reporters that he will 100-percent stay in the Draft if he hears he is a first-rounder by enough NBA front offices.

While that’s not exactly surprising, it is clarifying to see a definitive statement from Whitehead, who will wait until after he works out for a handful of teams between now and May 24th; he has until the 25th to remove his name from consideration.

Per Zach Braziller of the New York Post, the 76ers Pacers, Celtics and Bulls have all seen enough from Whitehead to warrant a workout. Zach has also reported that a few other teams have interviewed Whitehead, including the New York Knicks.

Philadelphia (24th, 26th), Indiana (20th) and Boston (23rd, 31st, 35th) all have a handful of picks right around Isaiah’s late-first early-second projected range.

While anything can happen over the next two weeks, the Seton Hall coaching staff has been recruiting as if Isaiah Whitehead is gone — perhaps fans should prepare themselves accordingly.

Isaiah’s game projects highly in a workout/combine environment and his relatively low national exposure over the course of the 2015-16 season has been flipped on its head as his stock appears to only be increasing.

He single handedly made SHU basketball fun again. Best if luck on anything he decides.

    • LBP

I agree- I would tell him to do a Dunn year but I think he will stay in the draft

  • PadrePirate

Good for him, of course. But is there any upside for SHU? Does it help recruits to see that a pirate can go first round? Add any prestige, etc to console our loss?

Chris mentions the staff recruiting as if…

Will we have to wait until may 25 to know who? Did TT commit to MichSt?

  • Despite my earlier tweet, hearing positive things here

    • Fishjam

He says the finalists are Missouri, Maryland, Seton Hall and Texas Tech. He’s changed hus list several times over the last year but Seton Hall is the only school that has been on the list every time and 247 Sports has him picking SH.

    • Fishjam

Chris, are you hearing positive things on him as a player or choosing SHU or both?

  • Fishjam

Here’s Zags story on Whitehead. First time in a while I’ve heard Willard mention JT.
