Seton Hall trailed by just a point with 2:47 to play in the first half before a shocking 22-1 run from No. 2 Villanova buried their hosts en route to an anti-climatic 92-70 loss.
Following back-to-back three-pointers from Khadeen Carrington (22 pts) and Desi Rodriguez (8 pts) that brought an initially raucous Prudential Center crowd on their feet as Seton Hall trailed just 31-30 late in the first half, Villanova closed on an 11-1 run that included a trio of three-pointers that iced the arena; an outstanding Jalen Brunson (22 pts, 10 asts) had a hand in all 11 points.
With the game turned on its head but Seton Hall still in it at 42-31 coming out of the locker room, Villanova then sank another three to perpetuate what would ultimately become a shocking 22-1 run that saw the Hall trailing 53-31 after the dust settled and in about the same spot they were at the Pavilion a month ago.
While Villanova certainly took advantage of their open looks, it was a suspect Seton Hall half court defense that did little to stem the tide like the Wildcats’ defense was able to do early on.
Angel Delgado (19 pts, 12 rebs) looked dominant early but he could do little in the face of Villanova’s onslaught.
Trailing by as many as 27 midway through the second half, Seton Hall was able to shrink their deficit to 16 with six to play but never truly threatened a completely dominant effort from Villanova over the closing 23 minutes.
