2017 forward Isaiah Whaley to visit Seton Hall

Looking to bolster their front line next year, Seton Hall will receive a visit from 2017 post forward Isaiah Whaley soon.

A 6-9 forward who most recently played at Mt. Zion Prep (Md.), Whaley was originally a 2016 prospect before re-classifying and playing a year of prep ball away from North Carolina.

Unranked by most sites but graded a three-star prospect by Scout, Whaley first emerged on Seton Hall’s radar as far back as December before he unofficially visited campus and was then offered during the first week of January; Memphis, Georgia, and Providence had all offered at one point, but it’s likely those offers no longer stand.

It sounds like Isaiah has attempted to convert from a face-up four to a more conventional post forward over the last year.

Besides Saint Louis, it’s unclear which schools have been recruiting him over the past few months.

Whaley joins Arizona State de-commit Kenny Wooten as high school prospects contacted recently that can join freshly-signed Newark East Side big man Darnell Brodie as part of Seton Hall’s 2017 class of big men.

Chris: Thanks for all of the great updates. I love the press release you tweeted.

Nice to see that so many recruits and the Newark East Side coach believe in our program.

To those who celebrate, Happy Easter.

    • thanks! i thought the fluffing up of Ish’s commitment by East Side coaches at the time was a bit much. Saying he could be an all-Big East type player, etc

Injuries have hurt him, but turning out to be sort of correct… he was MVP in title game plus all-conference defensive player.

Hopefully they are right about Brodie too.

Chris, Ish was on the BET all tournament team, IW was MVP. Are you talking about the NJ TOC title game?

Sandro Mamukelashvili is visiting Tuesday as per CM’s Twitter. Mamukelashvili, Duval, and a seasoned PG back up or Kiss sitting a year out along with Cale (could come in better then Powell) and Brodie will be a great class and upgrade from the departed/lost Sophomore class. From a few videos that I watched Mamukelashvili can score and has a lot of upside. I wouldn’t call him “explosive” but I would say he is ahead of Angel explosive wise and athletic wise at the same point in their development (Im not comparing the two on any other skill set). I think that Mamukelashvili has a really great chance to develop well.
