Seton Hall recruiting: Hoophall Classic, Taurean Thompson & more

A flurry of Seton Hall recruiting activity has occurred over the last two weeks as high school basketball gets in full swing and an open recruiting period continues in parallel to the college hoops season.

Most recently, some of Seton Hall’s staff traveled 90 minutes west to Springfield, Massachusetts to recruit at the Hoophall Classic after beating Providence on Saturday. Recruiting on road trips is far from rare: Seton Hall was actively watching kids when they went down to USF and out to Butler + Marquette last season.

Here’s a roundup of several underclassmen that the staff has offered along with a highly-ranked 2016 forward that is considering the Hall.

A primary reason for the coaching staff to go to Hoophall is Brewster Academy senior forward Taurean Thompson, a St. Anthony product that will decide late and is considering Syracuse, Providence and Seton Hall; he watched the game on Saturday on TV. Without any open scholarships, Seton Hall would have to lose a player via transfer or the pros if they want to get Taurean, something he’s aware of.

With Shaheen Holloway and Grant Billmeier out recruiting, 2017 wing Christian David of Vermont Academy was offered after his showing at Hoophall.

A long 6-foot-7 kid that is an “absolute driller” from the three-point line, David sounds a lot like Veer Singh. Baylor, Creighton, Illinois, Oregon, Providence and other high-majors have offered.

Five-star 2018 guard Cameron Reddish of Westtown (Pa.) also received an offer from Seton Hall in Springfield this weekend.

Already with offers from Auburn, UConn, Penn State, Syracuse and Villanova, the sophomore played for Haverford School last year before transferring to Westtown.

Speaking of the private school just outside of Philadelphia, 2017 Westtown guard Brandon Randolph was offered by Seton Hall a week ago. Brandon plays for the PSA Cardinals on the AAU circuit, the same team that previous recruits like Bryce Aiken have played for. Wake Forest, Virginia Tech, Vanderbilt, VCU and others have also offered.

Even earlier this month, Seton Hall offered 2018 sophomore guard Jalen Carey of Immaculate Conception (N.J.).

Carey held offers from DePaul and Pittsburgh prior to January with Seton Hall’s offer sparking interest from a bunch of other schools shortly after. Coached by NJ Playaz’ Jimmy Salmon at Immaculate Conception, the Hall has been recruiting Jalen since late last year.
