A 6-11 forward that plays for the PSA Cardinals on the AAU circuit, Japhet-Mathias’ recent offers are his first since UMass, Providence, Oregon, Clemson, UConn and Georgetown did so over the course of the 2014-15 college hoops season.
Born in Southeast London, Japhet-Mathias played for London’s Globe Academy before crossing the pond last fall. Now ranked No. 54 by Rivals and No. 101 by 247Sports.com in the Class of 2017, the forward is budding into a hot commodity in less than a year.
Outside of collecting rebounds, Japhet-Mathias didn’t put up notable stats at the Peach Jam last week, but he did score eight points in addition to five boards against the New York Lightning in a game that Seton Hall was surely watching.
Here’s a clip of Sam in action for the England U-18s last year:
Japhet-Mathias joins Virginia Academy (Va.) forward Ejike Obinna as recruits that picked up offers from Seton Hall over the first evaluation period. The second wave of AAU events starts tomorrow at 5pm.
