Nojel Eastern to visit Seton Hall

Seton Hall will receive an official visit from top-100 guard Nojel Eastern (Evanston, Ill.) this weekend.

A 6-foot-5 point guard who officially visited Michigan State, his perceived favorite, two weeks ago, Eastern has been recruited by Seton Hall for a long time now and is finally going to visit campus.

Kevin Willard and his staff have been diligent despite the long-distance recruiting relationship, having watched Nojel play twice while on Big East Midwest road trips since they offered way back in February of 2015.

Regional schools like DePaul, Purdue, Ohio State, and Michigan have also been hanging around the Meanstreets combo guard of late; the Boilermakers received a visit last August.

The Spartans have been Eastern’s 247Sports Crystal Ball runaway favorite for a bit with some speculating whether they’re recruiting him as a point guard or more of an off-ball guard/wing.

Seton Hall is recruiting the Billy Garrett Jr-like built guard along with top-ranked point guard Trevon Duval and Bishop McNamara (Md.) lead guard Jamir Moultrie, who they have swooped in late for. The staff was in Florida to watch Duval at IMG Academy on Tuesday, their second time in the Sunshine state in as many weeks.

In other recruiting news, 2018 forward Valdir Manuel (Patrick School, N.J.) was on campus Monday while the team was conducting just their second practice.

Love the determination of the staff to get Eastern on an official. Would love to make his college decision a tough one with this visit.

SHU announced as part of the 2017 Preseason NIT. Looks like a pretty nice group of teams (Virginia, Vanderbilt, and Rhode Island) with an intriguing matchup if they put SHU against Rhode Island. Nice to see that the administration is looking to be a part of these types of games for 2017.

    • Second (or third) pretty high-profile non-conf event for the Hall in as many seasons. Bodes well for nat’l exposure

Agreed, great for national exposure and getting the team prepared for tougher opponents during the BE season and playing on a neutral court in various locations across the country for the NCAA tournament.

Chris. I come on the site to read about seton hall basketball. And I think you do a great job covering the team and recruiting…but I do have a recommendation for you…. is it possible to only have content related tweets posted on this site…hopefully you will make adjustments so that readers can view shu material without being subjected to your commentary on the election.

    • Thanks for the feedback. Unfortunately, I can’t filter that out. The sidebar is an unfiltered hook into my Twitter feed.

In my defense, two (hopefully) bipartisan tweets from me over the entire election cycle is pretty good πŸ™‚

Hi Chris. With BE Media Day tomorrow what is your pick for Preaseason order of finish, Player/Rookie of Year and any other predictions?

    • Side note: I’ll be at MSG tomorrow

      Seton Hall

      St. John’s

      PoTY: Josh Hart/Trevon Bluiett
RoTY: Real tough, I’d need to do some research… I know PG Markus Howard (Marq.) is a stud, St. John’s has Shamorie Ponds and Markus Lovett and they should get big minutes, Villanova has some really talented forwards but they may need some time to get their feet wet, and of course Myles Powell may get some love as an impact sub

In an odd way (mostly pro-Big East), I hope Georgetown finally performs up to their recruiting. The conference would benefit if they are up there with Xavier and Villanova year-in, year-out.

      • Almost got it… Butler over Marquette; Hart and Ponds

  • FWIW, Nojel will likely be staying in the midwest (B10)
