Grant Billmeier set to re-join Seton Hall staff

Following the resignation of Dwayne “Tiny” Morton from his post on Seton Hall’s coaching staff, all signs are pointing to former Pirate center and assistant coach Grant Billmeier to re-join Kevin Willard’s staff.

First reported by Zach Braziller of the New York Post on Saturday night, Jerry Carino of the Asbury Park Press and J.P. Pelzman of The Bergen Record┬áhave both stated that Grant Billmeier, who has resided at Fairleigh Dickinson as an assistant since leaving Seton Hall’s staff last summer, is a shoe-in to be on Seton Hall’s sideline again this upcoming season.

Here’s what Carino wrote, which was later confirmed by Pelzman:

Grant Billmeier, who was the consummate hustle player at center for the Pirates from 2003-2007, is expected to fill the assistant coaching spot vacated by Dwayne “Tiny” Morton on Saturday, Gannett New Jersey has learned. Barring a last-minute holdup or change of heart, an announcement is expected in the coming days.

Seton Hall officially announced Morton’s departure this morning in a release that came as no surprise following AD Pat Lyon’s confirmation last night of the New York Post’s report.

“I want to thank Dwayne for his contributions to our program over the last year,” said Kevin Willard. “He is a terrific coach and mentor for student-athletes, and I understand that he feels his calling is back in teaching. I wish him all the best as he pursues his dream job.”

Morton added: “I had a great experience at Seton Hall working with Coach Willard, my fellow assistant coaches and our student-athletes, but my passion for teaching is strong, and I feel that is where I should be. I wish Seton Hall all the best and am excited to watch the programi continue its rise.”
