Game thread: Seton Hall hosts No. 2 Villanova at packed Prudential Center

NEWARK — Seton Hall hosts No. 2 Villanova with over 16,000 fans expected at Prudential Center in what is the biggest game to date in this venue.

6.5-point underdogs according to Vegas, the Hall can really put a stamp on their NCAA tournament resume which currently features a 3-5 record against RPI top-50 opponents with two of those wins coming away from home.

Oddly enough, the general theme for both teams coming into this one is revenge. I’m sure Villanova is still hungry to revenge their loss to Seton Hall in last year’s Big East Tournament final while the Pirates were humiliated by 30 at the Pavilion a month ago.

Villanova have won 11 of their last 12 since they fell at Butler on January 4th which marked their first loss since the Big East Tournament; Seton Hall has won 3 of 4 and are looking to build a late-season push following Khadeen Carrington’s outstanding 41-point effort on Wednesday night against Creighton.

Wildcats forward Darryl Reynolds (5.3 ppg, 5.5 rpg) will sit out today, his third missed game in a row; Eric Paschall (6.6 ppg, 3.9 rpg) will likely start in his place again. It seems like Villanova is the only Big East team as thin as Seton Hall — they usually don’t use more than seven guys.
